On this date in 2011, India became the first Asian nation to win the CWC.

India won a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.

For the second time in a row, India has won the Cricket World Cup.

It was exactly 11 years ago today that MS Dhoni-led Team India won the ODI Men’s Cricket World Cup in Mumbai, defeating Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final.

As of April 2, 2022, the eleventh anniversary of India’s victory in the ODI Men’s Cricket World Cup under the inspirational leadership of MS Dhoni would have passed. India’s six-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the World Cup final at the Wankhede Stadium sparked a national euphoria. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also commemorated the event by posting a photo of the whole World Cup-winning team clutching the trophy. The following was the post’s caption: “Forever seared into our minds! For the second time, #TeamIndia triumphed in a one-day international competition.”

Several Indian stars, including Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni, Zaheer Khan, and others, put forth outstanding performances to help India win the championship game.

In addition to Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan, both of whom tweeted about the event.

After Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar’s early dismissals, Gambhir provided much-needed solidity to the innings, while Dhoni supported himself in the middle order to finish the game in style with an unbeaten 91.

Gambhir was also unlucky to miss out on a hundred in the World Cup final, which would have been a fantastic achievement. He was out after 97 runs were scored against him. Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka was the only player to score a century in the match.

Defeating the West Indies at Lord’s earned India their second World Cup trophy, following Kapil Dev-led India’s triumph in 1983.
