Sri Lanka vs. India: Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan made their Indian ODI debuts against Sri Lanka on Sunday, a few months after their joint T20I debut against England in March as well.
Sunday at the First ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan made their ODI debut for India. Incidentally, in March this year both Suryakumar and Kishan made their T20I debuts against England together. Their debuts came when India had a new-looking team against Sri Lanka in the 3-game ODI series and a T20I series following 50-game contests. Besides Suryakumar and Kishan, there are also three new faces in the team, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chetan Sakariya, and Devdutt Padikkal, which might all be in line for debuts at different stages.
Captain Dasun Shanaka from Sri Lanka won the toss at R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday and chose to fight Shikhar Dhawan-led India.
Suryakumar and Kishan, both players in the India Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians, were among the most consistent scoreboards on their IPL and state teams.
Suryakumar has 98 List A matches and 180 T20s belts and 2197 IPL matches, 12-half centuries, from 108 matches.
During IPL 2021, he seemed in good shape and was 173 out of 7 matches at a strike rate of 144.16 when the tournament was postponed due to COVID-19 cases across clubs.
This followed a 2020 season of bumping, with 480 runs of 16 games at a striking pace of 145.01 and Mumbai’s fifth IPL championship record.
Kishan, who today turned 23, came to his popularity at the 2016 U-19 World Cup as Captain, when his team finished runners-up and won immensely from a successful IPL 2020 campaign with 516 matches out of 14 matches, with a striking rate of 145.76.
