The upcoming IPL season, 2021, will see Shreyas Iyer go through shoulder surgery on April 8th and make a full recovery.
Earlier in the year, Shreyas Iyer, an India middle-order batsman, left for Dubai to prepare for the second round of the IPL that began on September 19. After nearly five months of hard rehabilitation, Iyer, who guided the Delhi Capitals to the title clash in the 2020 season, is making a comeback. He had undergone surgery on his right shoulder following an on-field injury in an ODI in Pune on April 8. A senior official close to DC, on condition of anonymity, told PTI that “Yes, Shreyas has already visited Dubai and would start training following completion of all the quarantine measures.”
“Shreyas will be joining the team by the end of this month, but he intends to get ready to join the team as soon as possible.”
Praveen Amre, Delhi Capitals’ batting coach, is also traveling with Iyer as a consultant.
To assist Shreyas in the first week, Shreyas and Praveen have traveled with the team. A senior member of the organizing committee noted that since there are no protocols that enable outside net bowlers, it is believed that Shreyas will be aided with throwdowns by Praveen.
In these COVID times, finding training time in India is really challenging.” His training would have been delayed by ten days because of the hard quarantine that the DC squad would have to endure in India for at least five to six days before flying to the UAE.
As a result, he has been allowed to utilize and fully integrate into the main squad, which will allow him to utilize the three weeks prior to the competition before the season begins with DC.
It was reported on PTI earlier this week that Iyer, who is a consistent member of India’s white-ball squads, has passed one week of mandatory fitness testing at the National Cricket Academy, which is governed by the BCCI.
Rishabh Pant, who led DC to the final of the IPL in 2020 may retain his captaincy.
Prior to the cancellation of the IPL, 29 games were played. The Kolkata Knight Riders cricketers Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for the virus, causing the BCCI to delay the rest of the tournament and shift it to the United Arab Emirates.
Following the completion of the playoff stage, the remaining 31 matches will be played over 27 days with the competition kicking off on September 19 with a game between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians.
