After helping the defending Indian Premier League champion Mumbai Indians return to winning ways, West Indies great Kieron Pollard says getting to 300 wickets in Twenty20 cricket will remain special. Mumbai beat Punjab Kings by six wickets on Tuesday, reviving their title defense behind Pollard’s unbeaten 15 off seven balls and two crucial wickets. The all-rounder, who stands at 1.96 meters (6ft 5ins), became the first player in T20 history to take 300 wickets and score 10,000 runs, and he believes it will give bowlers an “important” boost.

After he reached the milestone with his medium-pace bowling, Pollard said, “Bowlers are underrated.”

“If you ask me, you should only do what the team asks of you. I know what I’m capable of as an individual in all areas of the game, and I always strive to give it my all when given the chance.”

The West Indies limited-overs captain returned his big-hitting T20 teammate Chris Gayle and then became Punjab captain KL Rahul’s 300th victim in the limited-overs format of the match. There is no way I’m giving up these wickets for anything.

It’s a fact that he doesn’t have any of those things, but “I have a little bit of brain and just try to use it as well as I can,” he added.

With Mumbai since 2010, the 34-year-old has five championships to his name.

He is adamant about continuing to play and proving his worth.

There are young guys in his dressing room, so he has to show them that he still has it because of his advanced age.

It’s mostly just to show these young guys what I’m capable of, so most of the time.

Captain Rohit Sharma of the Mumbai Indians lauded his team’s rock in the middle of the lineup.

It doesn’t matter what the ball is or how long it takes to bat, Sharma insisted.

“The two wickets they took were critical. With the Man of the Match award for his bowling, he can relax.”

The Mumbai Indians have currently ranked five spots out of eight in the Indian Premier League. They will travel to face the Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
