Ratnayake has been selected as interim head coach for the forthcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe, which begins in Colombo on July 16. Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed that the 58-year-old will take charge of the team for the three-match series, which begins on January 16. After Mickey Arthur resigned as head coach earlier this month, Sri Lanka has yet to name a long-term successor. For the Zimbabwe series, former Test captain Mahela Jayawardene will be unavailable because he will be in the Caribbean with Sri Lanka’s Under-19 team.
At the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy, the ODI series will take place on January 16, 18, and 21.
Zimbabwe’s three Twenty20 series with Sri Lanka were put on hold due to the latter’s forthcoming tour to Australia.
Sri Lanka just defeated the West Indies 2-0 in a three-match Test series.
Arthur, who left to take charge of English county side Derbyshire last month, was in charge of that tour.
The five-match T20 tour of Australia by Sri Lanka is scheduled for February 11-20.
