According to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has announced his retirement from international cricket. In the past year, Morgan had struggled with fitness and form, and on Monday, British media claimed that the left-handed hitter was definitely retiring.
“I am announcing my retirement from international cricket with immediate effect after much deliberation and consideration. In spite of the difficulty of ending what has been the most rewarding and enjoyable chapter of my career thus far, I believe the time has come for both me and the two England white-ball teams I have coached to this point “According to a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board, Morgan said.

“Eoin Morgan has stepped down as England Men’s White-Ball Captain with immediate effect, according to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The 35-year-old England captain led his team to their first-ever ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup victory at Lord’s in 2019 after a 13-year international career. England’s 2010 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup-winning side included him.

An official release noted that over his seven years as ODI skipper, he led England to ICC world number one, with triumphs over all significant nations.
Morgan’s captaincy led England to the 2019 50-over World Cup title and to the 2016 T20 World Cup finals, where they lost to Australia. He is largely recognized for revolutionizing England’s white-ball cricket style.
As for the team’s recent successes, they included appearances in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2021 T20 World Cup. The now 35-year-old made his ODI and T20 debuts for Ireland and England, respectively, in 2006 and 2009, respectively.
Morgan, who began his international cricket career with Ireland, has played 225 one-day internationals and 115 twenty20 internationals for England, a record for the Three Lions. There have been 248 one-day internationals where he has scored 7,701 runs at an average of 39.29 with 14 centuries and 47 fifties. He has also racked up 2,458 runs in 115 T20Is.
In 16 Test appearances, Morgan scored 700 runs at an average of 30.43, however, he was subsequently benched. Morgan was forced to withdraw from the final ODI against the Netherlands due to injury after struggling with his form and conditioning.
