A scene from the film ’83 prompted India’s World Cup-winning player to say that such an event never occurred.

Former cricketer Roger Binny has alleged that a scenario from the film ’83, a biographical sports drama film on India’s 1983 World Cup title win, is completely inaccurate. Binny, who was also on the World Cup-winning team, debunked a false scene depicting Team India being “overawed” by the West Indies. The movie’s scene took place following the Indian cricket team’s arrival in England for the global competition.

To paraphrase a line from the film ’83’, ‘The movie ’83’ depicts us waiting for the bus in the airport upon arrival in England. As the West Indies team walks by, you can see the crowd gazing in admiration. However, in actuality, such was not the case. We were not frightened,” Roger Binny said to Sportstar.

Sunday marked 40 years since India’s first World Cup victory, led by famous all-rounder Kapil Dev.

It would be an understatement to say that anyone anticipated India to win the final or even be present at Lord’s on the day of the final.

When India and West Indies met in 1983 for the World Cup final, West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl. Only 183 runs were scored by the Kapil Dev-led team because Andy Roberts took three and Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding, and Larry Gomes each got two wickets. India did a superb job containing the run rate of the Windies, who were chasing 183, as they were reduced to 57/3.

As a result, India quickly became the favorite to win the tournament, and the Caribbean squad quickly fell to 76/6. India won the World Cup for the first time after Mohinder Amarnath caught Michael Holding out of the game with the final wicket. India won the last match against West Indies by a score of 43 runs after bowling them out for 140.
