Cricket action between India and Pakistan, from the archives

For the sake of Pakistan’s cricket fans, the Indian cricket team should visit Pakistan.

The proposed ‘Hybrid Rule’ was recently discovered to be in effect for the 2023 Asia Cup, and as a result, Pakistan would host four games. This decision was made after political tensions between India and Pakistan prevented Indian players from attending games in Pakistan. Ahmed Shehzad, a batter for the Pakistan cricket team, says politics and sports should be kept separate and that India should visit Pakistan for the sake of the fans. Shehzad argued that the strength of Asian cricket comes from the cooperation between teams in the most recent episode of Nadir Ali Podcast.

I believe sports and politics should remain separate. This is something I have always maintained. It might be any country, India, Pakistan, or somewhere else. Sport has the power to bring people together and wash away their differences. That solidarity is Asia’s greatest strength. Eventually, reasonable people on both teams will decide to resume play. There is no other match in all of cricket that attracts as much attention as this one. There is no other sporting event with as many spectators as this one. Shehzad said that they should visit Pakistan because of their devoted following.

Shehzad added that Virat Kohli’s “best is yet to come” in terms of his cricketing prowess.

We hold each other with high esteem and regard. He’s always been helpful whenever I’ve needed some guidance on the cricket pitch. As a player, I hold a lot of esteem for him. A radical transformation has taken place in him. His initial appearance on the scene at the U-19 World Cup was as a slightly overweight player. His efforts to better himself in ways beyond cricket are admirable. He led India to unprecedented success in Test matches. I’ve never met somebody who could adjust so easily. Shehzad said, “I think he hasn’t even reached his potential yet.”
