Former Sri Lankan national team batting coach Grant Flower’s data analyst, G T Niroshan, was found to have COVID-19, a banned diuretic, in his system before the side faced India in the limited-overs series.
Cricket board officials claimed that Sri Lankan squad data analyst G T Niroshan had tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, a day after its batting coach Grant Flower was infected. Niroshan is being treated according to medical norms at the moment. SLC, the governing body of cricket in Sri Lanka, released a statement saying that G. T. Niroshan, the data analyst for the Sri Lanka national team, tested positive for a banned substance called Covid 19. “Following the identification of Grant Flower as Covid Positive, a PCR Test was done among the National Players, Coaches, and Support Staff yesterday, and he was determined to be positive. As of Thursday, when the Sri Lankan team arrived back in the country, batting coach Flower tested positive for COVID-19, little than a week before the home series against India.
All the other players who are quarantining have also been tested, as have the quarantine violators. The Sri Lankan team will play a six-match white-ball series against India starting on July 13th. Due to the strict quarantine on arrival, Flower had been completely segregated from the rest of the group.
The flower has previously represented Zimbabwe at the international level and was with the team during their matches in England, where they were unsuccessful in winning either the T20 or One-Day International series.
