During the second day of the first test, Bangladesh faces off against Sri Lanka.

In response to Sri Lanka’s 397, Bangladesh scored 76/0 at stumps on the second day of the first Test in Chittagong on Monday, in response to Angelo Mathews’ 199.

One run deprived Angelo Mathews of his second double century as Bangladesh knocked out Sri Lanka for 397 on Monday. Bangladesh responded well with the bat, reaching 76-0 at stumps on the second day, with opener Tamim Iqbal on 35 and Mahmudul Hasan on 31 at the crease. At the end of the day, the hosts were 321 runs behind Sri Lanka when terrible light forced the stumps. Nayem Hasan crushed the heart of Sri Lankan opener Mathews as he attempted to complete a double hundred with last man Vishwa Fernando at the other end of the field.

Previously, the Sri Lankan’s most excellent score on a Test was 200.

Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium was Nayeem’s home stadium and he finished with 6-105, while Shakib had 3-60 for Bangladesh.

As his batting partners dried up, Mathews had his eyes set on a double century after scoring 47 with Vishwa to take the ninth wicket for his side.

But before tea, the number 10 was struck on the helmet and was unable to play.

Nayeem took the final wicket of Asitha Fernando after he lasted 27 balls.

As a result of Vishwa’s valiant comeback to the crease, Mathews was forced to make his last-ditch bid to reach the century mark.

He hit Taijul Islam for four to get to 196 before Nayeem denied him with a single and a double.

Mathews and fellow overnight batsman Dinesh Chandimal had previously shared 136 runs when they resumed on 114. (66).

While batting, Chandimal attempted a calculated reverse sweep but was ruled out lbw after the umpires reviewed the call.

Soon after, wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella (three runs) was dismissed by Nayeem.

In the first over following the break, Shakib claimed two wickets in two balls to force Sri Lanka into a corner.

When Ramesh Mendis was bowled out for a single, he then trapped Lasith Embuldeniya’s leg before for a duck.

Mohammed Fernando was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim off the bowling of Mushfiqur Rahim at mid-on on 16.

Also, in the fourth over of the day, Bangladesh lost an opportunity to dismiss Mathews for 119 runs.

However, despite technology suggesting that Mathews had edged the ball, there was no appeal for a catch behind Khaled Ahmed.

As Bangladesh completed Sri Lanka’s first innings in 153 balls, 40 minutes into the final session, Mathews smashed an incredible 19 fours and one six in his 397 balls.
