It’s a three-horse race between KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan to crack the starting XI.
Mohammed Kaif, an Indian cricket legend, is pleased with the level of competition for playing time in the Indian team as they prepare for the World Cup next month. With the World Cup beginning in less than a month, the Indian team’s management has some important decisions to make. The middle order for the Rohit Sharma-led team has yet to be settled, with players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan vying for a spot. Kishan’s batting form in 2023 has been impressive, but Rahul and Iyer have also returned to full health.
Kaif speculates that the administration would like to get Rahul and Iyer some game time before India faces Australia in the World Cup opener on October 8.
Rahul Dravid will be aware of the fact that both Rahul and Iyer are crucial to the success of the Indian middle order and require regular playing time. There is strong competition on the team, and it was great to see Ishan perform so well. Dravid would like to see Rahul bat at No. 5 if an in-form player is unavailable. Kaif stated on Star Sports, “He has good numbers at No. 5, and you will want him and Iyer to get game time and have that form for their first World Cup game against Australia.”
Kaif, though, cautioned Rahul Dravid, the team’s head coach, and Rohit, the captain, about how much effort they were giving Rahul and Iyer.
After being given the go-light to play by the NCA, Jasprit Bumrah subsequently suffered a second injury. Therefore, they must monitor Iyer and Rahul carefully to determine how often they can play and when they need rest. You shouldn’t put too much on their shoulders just before the game starts. That’s why we have Rahul Dravid and the coaches there,” he explained.
On Sunday, India will play Pakistan in the Asia Cup’s Super 4 round. After sitting out the group games with a niggling injury, Rahul is scheduled to return.
