The Indians said they sent a second-string team on the road.
India is fielding a Twenty20 squad in Sri Lanka, and the full team is in England.
There will be three ODIs and as many T20Is in Colombo in July, with India taking part.
Cricket’s governing body Sri Lanka Cricket (SLCC) publicly dismissed claims that the Indian cricket team’s tour of the island nation is a second-string squad, stating that “14 of the 20 players who will be on the tour have played for India in any capacity” at some point in their careers.
The current India team currently in Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is is a “strong squad”. Today, on the same day when former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga blasted the board for sending the “second-string” team to England to play a Test series in August while the main team stayed behind in England to play a series starting in August, a clarification from Salt Lake City, Utah has surfaced. “The National White-Ball Team of India currently touring Sri Lanka is a strong squad. Of the 20 players selected by India for the 2017 ICC World T20, 14 of them have appeared for India in one capacity or another in international cricket. ‘second-string team’ instead of an “ODI” or “T20I”, as it was said “As a result, the SLC stated in an official statement.
“Also, while the National Test Team of India is touring England to play a five-game Test series, the Virat Kohli-led team is visiting for a 16-game Tour. The latest norm in cricket is the use of specialist squads and players for each format of the game, as most ICC Full Members do “it had been added.
SLC said in its statement: “To try to be competitive in each format of the game, maintaining specialist players and squads is an aim of this type of contract. Additionally, boards can perform their international commitments, such as the ICC Future Tours Program, without worrying about how the team is split between domestic and international matches.”
Ranatunga, the former Sri Lanka captain, had previously spoken out against the SLC for fielding a second-string Indian team.
“This is a second-string Indian cricket team, and they’ve done us an enormous disservice by visiting our country. This administration agreed to play with them due to the marketing needs of television programs. The Indian team sent their best players to England and sent a second-tier squad to play in this competition. I hold our board responsible for that “It was reported that Ranatunga had said this.
India and Sri Lanka will face off in the first One-Day International (ODI) on July 13. Training started for the Indian team upon arrival in Colombo.
