Fans at M Chinnaswamy Stadium began chanting MS Dhoni’s name when he came to bat in the final over of the first innings.
Games in the Indian Premier League between the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore tend to draw large crowds. The reason for this is that it features a matchup between two of Indian cricket’s brightest talents, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. It was the same on Monday when RCB hosted CSK at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Fans in Bengaluru have much love for RCB, but they also have much respect for Dhoni. As a result, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium crowd started screaming Dhoni’s name in the final over of the first innings. Actress Anushka Sharma, the wife of RCB player Virat Kohli, appeared impressed and may have even said, “They love him.”
Take a look at the clip here:
During Monday’s IPL match, Chennai Super Kings batsmen Devon Conway (83 runs off 45 balls) and Shivam Dube (52 runs off 27 balls) helped their team to a commanding 226 for six.
When RCB choose to bowl, they faced an uphill battle against an aggressive CSK batting lineup.
Thanks to Conway, CSK got off to a good start in the second over as he whipped Wayne Parnell to the mid-wicket boundary and then hoisted the South African over the fine leg fence three balls later.
Ruturaj Gaikwad had a rough day and was dismissed in the third over as he hit a Mohammed Siraj delivery to Parnell in the outfield.
Conway continued to confidently go about his job, scooping Vijaykumar Vyshak over the keeper for a four. Then Ajinkya Rahane (37 off 20) hit a beautiful hook shot that sailed into the stands.
To make a point, Rahane hit Parnell for two fours and a six in the sixth over, scoring 15 runs.
Glen Maxwell, who was brought into the attack in the seventh over, was smacked out of the park by Conway. The pair were menacing to watch as they scored a boundary or a six in almost every over they batted together.
In the tenth over, Conway was at his most savage, smashing a six over midwicket off of Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva before the Lankan spinner ended the potentially disastrous partnership by dismissing Rahane. With a double in the same over, Conway reached his second consecutive fifty.
At the midway point, with CSK at 97 for 2, the New Zealander crushed Hasaranga for a boundary. Conway maintained his onslaught by smashing debutant Vijaykumar for back-to-back fours, and Shivam Dube welcomed his entrance at the crease with a massive six off Maxwell.
Conway smashed the ball over the fine-leg boundary for another six, making it a nightmare of an afternoon for young Vijaykumar.
