Australia Women vs India Women: Meghna Singh, Renuka Singh Thakur were given maiden telephone calls while Yastika Bhatia also got a berth in the teams.
Meghna Singh, Seam bowlers, and Renuka Singh Thakur were presented with India’s maiden call-up. Left-arm Rajeshwari Gayakwad, returned on Tuesday when the BCCI announced that the women’s teams will be competing against Australia in the next one-off test. The Indian team will leave for Australia on August 29 to play three ODIs, a day-night Test, and three T20Is, beginning next month. The selectors decided, in April, to award Meghna, 27, and Renuka, 25, the Senior One-Day Trophy. While right-armed medium-armed pacer Meghna took five railway wickets, during the tournament, Renuka captured nine Himachal Pradesh wickets.
Left hitter Yastika Bhatia has also got a place in all three teams but Priya Punia and Indrani Roy have been left out.
Rajeshwari, an experienced spinner, who belonged to the South Africa series, was not considered on an England tour as she recovered from knee injuries and also suffered from COVID-19.
For the one-off Test and ODI series, the selectors announced a team of 18, led mainly by skipper Mithali Raj, and a 17-member squad led by Harmanpreet Kaur for the T20 series.
“The All-India Senior Women’s Selection Committee on Tuesday picked the squads for India Women’s upcoming tour in Australia. The series consists of 3 ODIs, one test match, and three T20Is, “In a release, the BCCI said.
The tour will begin with the ODIs, starting with the first match at the North Sydney Oval on 19th and then 2nd and 3rd matches at the Junction Oval on 22nd and 24th of September.
The one-off pink-ball tests are set for 30 September in Perth, followed by the North Sydney Oval T20Is on 7, 9, and 11 October.
In Bengaluru, the Indian players trained ahead of the tour. On arrival in Australia, the team will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine before taking on the hosts of the first ODI. After the British tour, it is another major Indian tour as they build on their preparations for the ODI World Cup in New Zealand early next year.
