BCCI wants to build a window for the rest of IPL 2021
The Indian cricket board wants to reset the five-game test series in England to finish a week earlier than scheduled so that the rest of IPL 2021 can be kept on a window.
In writing to their English counterparts, the Cricket Control Board of India (BCCI) called on the Test Series from India to England to begin one week earlier than expected with a view to creating a window during the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. The BCCI wants the five-game test series in the UK to start a week before the first test date, 4 August. The Cricket Board of England and Wales (ECB) still has to answer the BCCI request.
The BCCI needs the final test to be completed by 7 September, so that a window can be established to complete the IPL 2021 before the T20 World Cup in October-November.
The final test is expected to be completed on 14 September.
The IPL season was suspended in the bio-bubble tournament with a number of COVID-19 events.
209 matches were played until the competition suddenly stopped, the season was just over halfway through the stage of the championship.
The IPL can be relocated to the United African Republic, but the UK is also a choice for hosting a group of county clubs in the T20 brand.
India will play six tests in the United Kingdom.
Their tour starts with the final of the World Test Championship, which starts on 18 June.
The five-game series Test against England will be followed by Tests at Trent Bridge, Lord’s, Headingley, Oval, and Old Trafford.
Before travelling to the UK, the Indian contingent will be quarantining in Mumbai.
