KL Rahul has not been in excellent form as of late. My firm conviction has always been that India should not have a vice-captain. If the captain has to leave the field, you should immediately identify a player who can step in as captain, but otherwise, I’d rather go with my strongest XI. While Rahul will continue to play in all four Border Gavaskar Trophy matches, he will no longer serve as Rohit Sharma’s deputy captain, a role he held for the first two games.
No one is stuck with the vice captainship if he fails to deliver; at least the tag is gone. To be completely honest, I have never liked the position of vice-captain at home. Things are different abroad.
