David Warner is expected to do well at the T20 World Cup, according to Brett Lee.
Warner has been in a slump and had a disappointing Indian Premier League season.
SRH did not name him as their captain for the IPL season opener against Australia.
Ex-Aussie paceman Brett Lee believes David Warner’s self-esteem has been damaged as a result of his treatment by Sunrisers Hyderabad during the Indian Premier League.
In the wake of the harsh treatment he received from Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, ex-Australian pacer Brett Lee believes David Warner’s confidence has taken a hit. Despite this, Lee still believes that the opener is a big-stage player who will be crucial to his team’s success at the T20 World Cup in 2019. When the IPL resumed in the UAE after the first two games, SRH removed Warner from the playing XI because of his lackluster performances. Australian cricketers were exhorted by Lee to change the record books since they have not yet won a T20 World Cup. On Saturday, Australia will face off against longtime rivals South Africa.
“We’ve had mixed results with this format; it’s time to switch things up, and we have a team capable of going the distance. Even with the strength of teams like England, India, and New Zealand, it’s going to be difficult “Lee penned an opinion piece for the International Chamber of Commerce.
“However, Australia has an abundance of talent, with David Warner serving as the lynchpin. After his IPL form, I’d say he’s saving his runs for the games that matter. Despite the fact that he was treated horribly in that situation, which may have diminished his self-confidence, he shines on the big stage. Since his class is secure, everything should go smoothly for him.”
Apart from Warner, the 44-year-old setup Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood to succeed for Australia in ODIs.
“Mitchell Starc will also have a lot of support from me. Many believe that Starc is past his prime, but he would be in my team no matter what. Josh Hazlewood has had a strong IPL season, and Pat Cummins is an all-around great player. He’s the team’s David Beckham, making everything he touches shine!”
In contrast, Lee is confident that India will win the title and believes that KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami will lead the team to victory.
“With their top four or five batters and their bowling attack, India are likely the favorites. Based on recent form, I believe KL Rahul will be the leading run-scorer in the tournament and Mohammed Shami will be the leading wicket-taker. This will be a good start if they deliver, and India has one of the top run-scorers and wicket-takers.”
Lee warned that South Africa poses a “massive threat” to Australia’s tournament opener against the Proteas.
“There are new players and old greats in the sport. However, when playing against a country like South Africa, there is always a level of respect between the two teams. Because of their match-winners, the T20 format will be ideal for them.
“Their bowlers have the ability to end the game in four or five overs, so this will be a true test for them. In terms of sports, South Africa resembles Australia the most, in my opinion. Although New Zealand is geographically closer, South Africans are more abrasive on the sports field than their New Zealand counterparts.
“They’re constantly in your face, which I adore; it’s fantastic. As a result, their success across all platforms is no surprise. They’re going to give Australia a good fight, I can tell you that much.” And as a result of Lee’s thinking, he expected nations from the Indian Sub-Continent to do well in the UAE.
