As a replacement for Travis Head in the County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup, Sussex Cricket has recruited Cheteshwar Pujara.
In order to compete in the County Championship and the Royal London One-Day Cup, it was announced on Thursday that Sussex Cricket has signed India’s Cheteshwar Pujara as an overseas batter. Australian Travis Head sought to be freed from his contract because of greater international obligations and the announcement that he and his fiancée are expecting their first child. Pujara will be his replacement. “As a new member of the Sussex County Cricket Club, I am thrilled and humbled to be a part of this rich history. I can’t wait to join the Sussex family and become a part of its rich cricketing tradition. I’ve always enjoyed my time spent playing county cricket in the United Kingdom, so I’m looking forward to this new opportunity and want to help the club succeed “said Pujara in a statement issued by the government.
We are happy to have such an experienced international top-order batsman join our group and look forward to his contribution both with the bat and in assisting our younger top-order batsmen to continue their development in first-class cricket,” declared Sussex Cricket in an official release.
This is a loss for Travis and his partner Jessica, and we wish them the best of luck in their international endeavors and on their recent news.
If all goes according to plan, Pujara should be able to play in at least one Championship game this season before heading back to India.
