When asked about cricket in a recent interview, former umpire Asad Rauf indicated he was no longer interested in the sport.
Asad Rauf, a former member of the International Cricket Council’s top umpiring panel, now runs a clothing and shoe store in Pakistan. After umpiring 170 games between 2000 and 2013, Rauf declared he is no longer interested in cricket and is running the shop for the sake of his employees, not himself. That the umpire was banned by the BCCI for corrupt activities and disturbing the game in 2016 is worth noting. According to a 2016 BCCI statement, “Mr. Asad Rauf has been banned for five years from umpiring, playing, or representing cricket in any shape or any way being associated with the operations of the Board and its Affiliates”.
As part of the 2013 IPL spot-fixing controversy, Rauf was accused of accepting presents from bookmakers and participating in the fixing.
In other words, “Maine 2013 ke baad cricket se bilkul hai”
In an interview with Paktv.tv, Rauf explained, “I haven’t touched the game since 2013, because once I leave something, I leave it entirely.”
As Rauf explained, “Bhai, this isn’t for me, it’s for my staff’s daily salary, and I’m working for them.”
For a total of 170 matches, Rauf umpired 49 Tests, 98 ODIs, and 23 T20Is.
Regardless matter what I’m doing, I’m always striving to do my best. I began my career as a shopkeeper, and now I’m at the top of my game. In cricket, I achieved my top performance. As an umpire, I made a promise to myself that I would strive to be the best I could be… I’m not greedy at all. According to Rauf, “I’ve seen a lot of money, and I’ve traveled the world.”
