CSK captain Faf du Plessis expressed his surprise at the team’s mid-season captaincy change in the Indian Premier League 2022.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is a club that prefers to stick with the same lineup in every match in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ravindra Jadeja served as captain for the first eight matches of the current season, but he stood down to focus on his own game, therefore MS Dhoni was reappointed.
When asked about the events leading up to the mid-season captaincy switch at Royal Challengers Bangalore, Faf du Plessis, the team’s former CSK captain, claimed he was taken aback by the turn of events.
“This is a surprise to me, but it’s not surprising to me that the captaincy change happened mid-season. Because of this, it’s as if the two surprises are nearly equaling one other, “explained du Plessis on RCB’s ‘Bold Diaries’ broadcast before the RCB-CSK game.
A large portion of CSK’s success, he continued, can be attributed to MS Dhoni’s leadership and ability to bring the most out of his teammates.
CSK’s official statement on the captaincy move was released on Saturday and read as follows: “MS Dhoni has been asked to take over as captain of CSK after Ravindra Jadeja decided to step down in order to concentrate more on his game. When MS Dhoni accepts to lead CSK, Jadeja can concentrate on his game.”
In the RCB-CSK match, the visitors were unable to chase down 174 runs and were defeated by a margin of 13 runs. With a score of 56, Devon Conway led the way for CSK, but it wasn’t enough to beat the MS Dhoni-led side.
Harshal Patel, who returned with statistics of 3-35, was named Man of the Match. Dinesh Karthik made 26 and Mahipal Lomror made 42 to help RCB reach 173/8 in 20 overs earlier.
RCB moved up to fourth place in the points table with this victory, while CSK fell to ninth.
