Despite playing poorly on the pitch, Delhi Capitals were able to defeat the Punjab Kings in their IPL 2023 match.
Fast bowler Anrich Nortje of the Delhi Capitals stated on Wednesday that Kuldeep Yadav was the game’s best batsman, but his teammates dropped him by dropping a few catches. The David Warner-led team’s fielding was atrocious, resulting in the loss of two vital catches and the failure to complete two run-outs. “I must say Kuldeep was our standout bowler tonight and we didn’t help him by dropping the catches,” Nortje remarked after the game.
David Warner, the team’s captain, shared his comments after the game.
Even though we played poorly on the pitch, we are happy to have won. We struck out in the batter’s box despite losing the toss. After struggling on unstable home surfaces, the wicket proved helpful. You expect reliability from your regular home base. Warner remarked, “We have not been able to figure out what a fair total there is.
When DC was given the opportunity to bat first, they responded by scoring 213 runs in 20 overs. Prithvi Shaw (54 off 38 balls, including seven fours and a six) and David Warner (46 off 31 balls, including five fours and two sixes) got DC off to a great start with a 94-run opening stand.
Shaw also shared in a 54-run stand with Rilee Rossouw, who hit an undefeated 82 (including six fours and six sixes) in only 37 deliveries. Together with Phil Salt (26* from 14 balls, including two fours and two sixes), the South African batsman put on a 65-run stand.
For PBKS, only Sam Curran (2/36 in four overs) was able to collect wickets with his bowling.
In retaliation, PBKS traded away Shikhar, their captain, for a golden duck. Prabhsimran Singh scored 22 runs in 19 balls, while Atharva Taide scored 55 runs in 42 balls (five fours, two sixes). Taide and Liam Livingstone put on 78 runs for the third wicket, however, Taide eventually went out of the game.
Livingstone kept putting his side in a strong position by blasting sixes. With a no-ball in the last over, PBKS needed 16 runs off three balls to win. He took his team to the brink of victory.
Despite an outstanding effort, Livingstone was unable to secure victory for his team. He was dismissed on the last ball of the game after scoring 94 runs off 48 balls with five fours and nine sixes for his second fifty of IPL 2023.
Among DC’s bowlers, Anrich Nortje (2/36 in four overs) stood out as the most effective. Ishant Sharma (2/36) was effective with the wickets he took in his three overs, but he was also a little pricey. In addition, Khaleel Ahmed and Axar Patel each took out one opponent.
For his performance, Rossouw was named “Player of the Match.”
PBKS drops to eighth place with a 6–7 win–loss record and 12 points. There is little hope of them making the playoffs. DC is currently in last place, with a 5–8 record. Finally, the team scored 10 points.
