The Jaffer-Vaughan rivalry was given a new twist when Wasim Jaffer and Michael Vaughan started fighting back on social media.
When India won the Test series in Australia earlier this year, former India opener Wasim Jaffer and former England captain Michael Vaughan had a Twitter feud. While Australia went on to win the series 4-0, Jaffer felt it was only right to point out to people that he and other critics had been wrong. As a result, England’s rivalry with India grew even stronger after the two countries met in a Test series.
When asked in a video interview about who he would like to block on social media, Vaughan named Jaffer.
Jaffer, not one to back down, was ready with another comeback.
After learning that @MichaelVaughan wants to block me, I wrote on Twitter, “Me and my friends after knowing Michael Vaughan wants to block me.” The picture I shared was of the 2007 Cricket World Cup victory celebration in India after India’s Test series win in England.
It is the only time that India has won a Test series in England. Jaffer was a member of the Indian team that only managed to win one match, which he was captain for.
Jaffer’s fans rejoiced.
Cricketer Wasim wrote, “This is amazing, you are a superstar everywhere: from your cricketing days to now coaching on the field and off.”
Others used memes in their replies.
Jaffer has built a following of fans for his witty social media games, having once captained India in cricket.
