The International Cricket Council (ICC) has begun assessing venues in the USA and has tentatively chosen the period of June 4-30, 2024 to host the T20 World Cup in conjunction with the West Indies. There had been questions about whether or not the United States was prepared to host the major event, but an ICC delegation toured the stadiums scheduled to hold the games this week, putting those concerns to rest. Stadia in Lauderhill, New York, Dallas, and Morrisville, North Carolina were all visited by the inspection crew.
The fourth and fifth Twenty20 Internationals between India and the West Indies will be played at Lauderhill on August 12 and 13.
Major League Cricket matches are presently played at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas and Church Street Park in Morrisville.
However, in order to host top-level cricket matches, these three venues—along with New York’s Van Cortlandt Park—must be designated as international venues by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan will be played in New York at a facility with a capacity of almost 35,000. The reason for this is the substantial diaspora community that has settled there.
Due to ongoing preparations at the stadium, however, the plan has not been finalized as yet.
However, the ICC concluded that a solution is possible in the near future.
The Mayor and City Hall in New York are strong backers of the ICC. Therefore, we anticipate a punctual conclusion to the project. A member of the ICC board told PTI, “Everything is on course as most of India’s matches will be played in the US.”
Twenty teams will compete in the T20 World Cup in 2024.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is eager for the United States to co-host the Twenty20 World Cup because they believe it will improve cricket’s chances of being included in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has presented to the Los Angeles organizing committee, and a decision will be taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOA) later this year.
