Recently, India’s cricket team defeated Australia 2-1 to claim victory in a four-game Test series.
One of the best pacers to come out of India is Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The Meerut-born cricketer has scalped 90 wickets in the shortest format, including two five-wicket hauls, since making his explosive debut in a T20I against Pakistan in 2012. His lightning speed has helped Team India win several races over the years. Bhuvneshwar took a lot of criticism after the 2022 Twenty20 World Cup, as he failed to make an impression. The 33-year-old pacer gave up a lot of runs in the final overs and only managed to take four wickets the entire competition. In November 2022, he last appeared in a match for India, losing to New Zealand.
But, veteran wicketkeeper and batsman Dinesh Karthik said that following Team India’s recent victory, head coach Rahul Dravid went on to compliment Bhuvneshwar for his contribution to Indian cricket.
“Rahul Dravid spent the first five minutes of a team meeting talking exclusively about him. I only bring it up because he is so underappreciated and understated, and because I believe it is crucial to give the devil his due in a group setting. He praised Bhuvneshwar Kumar, mentioning his long career in white-ball cricket for India “Karthik declared on the Cricbuzz Plus program The Rise of New India.
“That’s encouraging to hear, as cricket fans tend to focus on the batting prowess of their favorite teams rather than the bowling prowess of the opposing team. After all, it’s not every day that you hear about a player who has been a consistent performer with the ball for Team India in addition to his franchise. Bhuvneshwar Kumar deserves a lot of praise “the man continued.
India’s Bhuvneshwar has played in 21 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 87 T20Is. Averaging 26.09 with an economy rate of 2.94, he has taken 63 wickets in 21 Test matches. He has a best bowling performance of 6/82 in this format when bowling overs.
In the longest format, he has proven to be an effective batsman as well, scoring 552 runs at an average of over 22 with three 50s in 29 innings. He has a 63* as his best round in the format.
With 141 wickets at an average of 35.11 and an economy rate of 5.08, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has dominated in 121 One-Day Internationals. As a bowler, he had a best performance of 5/42 in the format.
With Rohit Sharma at the helm, Team India defeated Australia in a four-game Test series, winning the final two games by scores of 2-1 and 1-0. Australia secured their spot in the final of the World Test Championship, which will be played at the Oval in June of this year, with a victory over India in the series’ third and final Test.
But, India also qualified for the main event after Sri Lanka lost the first Test against New Zealand on Monday.
