Darren Gough named Shaheen Afridi the future captain of Pakistan after being impressed by his performance in the Pakistan Super League.
Pakistan’s finest bowler in recent years, Shaheen Shah Afridi has made a name for himself in all three forms of the game for the national side and in the Pakistan Super League. 14 wickets in three County Championship matches were his most recent haul. Lahore Qalandars captain Darren Gough, who played for England in the 1990s, believes the 22-year-old left-arm seamer might one day lead Pakistan’s national squad. If Afridi can match the impact of another left-arm pace great from Pakistan, Wasim Akram, then Pakistan has an “unbelievable cricketer,” he said.
“Watching him play for Middlesex, it’s clear that he’s a long-term stay. What an incredible cricketer you have on your hands if he’s even half as excellent as Wasim Akram. Because Akram was one of the best cricketers in the world for so many years, “he stated.
Afridi has represented Pakistan in 24 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 40 T20Is, taking 95, 59, and 47 wickets in the three forms, respectively, throughout the course of her career.
