With two singles victories from P V Sindhu and H S Prannoy, India advanced to the semifinals of the Asia Mixed Team Badminton Championships.
After defeating Malaysia on Thursday in Dubai at the Asia Mixed Team Badminton Championships, India advanced to the quarterfinals as the group winner after victories by star shuttlers P V Sindhu and H S Prannoy in their respective singles bouts. It took Prannoy an hour and ten minutes to defeat world no.4 Zii Jia Lee in the opening men’s singles match for India in their final Group B encounter, but he did it by a score of 18-21, 21-13, 25-23.
Instead, Sindhu won the women’s singles match in just 34 minutes, defeating Ling Ching Wong 21-13, 21-17, to give India a commanding 2-0 advantage.
Nevertheless, Dhruv Kapila and Chirag Shetty fell to Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the men’s doubles match, 16-21, 10-21, for a 2-2 score.
After India’s 5-0 wins against Kazakhstan and UAE, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand stunned Commonwealth Games champions Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharanto 23-21 21-15 to give India a 3-1 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
