In the wake of Washington Sundar’s injury, the Indian team has decided to put Shahbaz Ahmed on their ODI roster to play in Zimbabwe.
For the One-Day International series between India and Zimbabwe, Shahbaz Ahmed has received his first national team call-up. The selectors decided to invite him to join the Indian side on their current tour of Zimbabwe after seeing his strong play for West Bengal in the Ranji Trophy 2022 and for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL this year. On August 18, the first of three One-Day Internationals will begin. It should be noted that the Bengal all-rounder Shahbaz was not originally selected for the squad, but was brought in after Washington Sundar was forced to withdraw from the series with a shoulder injury.
“Every cricket player dreams of donning the Indian national team’s colors. One’s childhood goal comes true when they hear they’ve been selected for the Indian team. My best effort has always been put forth whenever I have played for Bengal. Because the Bengals have faith in me, “PTI cited what Shahbaz had said.
“I’d love the chance to try my hand at batting and bowling for India if given the chance. I’d like to think the squad can rely on me, “In addition, he said.
Axar Patel is Shahbaz’s main competition for a spot in the starting eleven, therefore despite making the 16-man India team, it will be tough for him to break into the starting lineup.
India and Zimbabwe will play two more one-day internationals on August 20 and 22.
