India vs England: Twitter was aborted with congratulatory messages for Team India as they beat England in the second Test to tie the series 1–1.
India beat England by 317 runs in the second Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to tie the four-match series 1-1. After losing by 227 runs in the opening Test, India came back to haunt the audience from start to finish. On a pitch from Day 1, Indian spinners led by Ravichandran Ashwin came into their own and harassed the English batsmen. With the bat, Rohit Sharma was the hero of India in the first innings, while Ashwin, who took a total of eight wickets in the match, played a brilliant innings of 106 runs in the second innings.
Twitter was upbeat after India’s huge win. Cricketers, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan all praised India’s incredible performance in the second Test.
India went into the match after the dismissal of Joe Root and England in the first Test in Chennai. Despite being in the same place in the second Test, there was a very different look on the pitch for the second Test.
India won the toss and elected to bat, but were dealt a shock almost immediately as Shubman Gill was dismissed for Duck. Rohit Sharma took center stage on the pitch which was already uprooted.
Along with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit put India in a position of strength as India scored 329 runs in the first innings. Rohit was bowled out for a superb 161, while Rishabh Pant fireworks late to score another half-century.
England were on the back foot from the gateway with Ishant Sharma bowling out Rory Burns in the very first over. Ashwin and debutant Axar Patel then demolished the former opposition team after taking their 29th five wickets in Test cricket.
England were given a huge lead by dismissing England for 134 runs.
India came out to bat in the second innings. But on the morning of the 3rd day, the wickets fell giving England a ray of hope. However, Virat Kohli and Ashwin ended their chances of England’s revival with a partnership of 96 runs.
Ashwin hit his fifth Test century, as England were tossed to give India a target of 482 runs.
The Indian spinners once again came in the second innings, falling all 10 wickets. Axar Patel took five wickets for the first wicket, Ashwin took three wickets to his name, while Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets.
