With 413 wickets, Ashwin is India’s fourth most wicket-taker in one-day cricket. In terms of domestic records, Ashwin is expected to overtake Harbhajan in the rankings.
Ravichandra Ashwin, India’s off-spinner, is on the verge of yet another Test cricket milestone. Ashwin has the opportunity to pass Harbhajan Singh as India’s third-highest wicket-taker in the longest format of the game when India takes on New Zealand in the opening of a two-match Test series beginning on November 25 in Kanpur. Only five wickets separate him from Harbhajan in the list of all-time wicket-takers. Anil Kumble (632) and Kapil Dev (434) are India’s second and third most wicket-takers, respectively, with 417 wickets each.
Ashwin, on the other hand, is India’s fourth-highest wicket-taker in the one-day internationals with 413 wickets to his name. In terms of domestic records, Ashwin is expected to overtake Harbhajan in the rankings.
Anil Kumble holds the record for the most 10-wicket hauls by an Indian bowler, and Ashwin needs one more to match it. In the longest format, he has seven 10-wicket hauls against Kumble’s eight. With 22 10-wicket hauls in Test cricket, Muttiah Muralitharan leads the way.
Over the course of 60 matches, India has won 21, lost 13, and been tied 26 times in their head-to-head encounters with New Zealand. Indians have won each of their last three-Test series against the Kiwis at home.
Before this match, the two sides haven’t met since the World Test Championship final in June 2021, in which New Zealand won by eight wickets in Southampton.
The Indian team, led by new head coach Rahul Dravid, will try to win the Test series as well following their whitewash of the Kiwis in the three-match T20I series.
Virat Kohli, India’s usual skipper, will not play in the opening Test against England. During the absence of Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane will head the squad. He will be back in Mumbai for the second Test.”
