Root hit a six over third man from a fuller ball bowled by Scott Boland outside the off stump during the 2023 Ashes match.

On the first day of the inaugural Ashes Test, which began on Friday at Edgbaston, Birmingham, Joe Root served as England’s anchor. Ben Stokes, captain of the home team, won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite England’s continuous fall of wickets, the sixth-wicket combination of Root and Jonny Bairstow proved to be decisive in their victory over Australia. The pitch provided for the game is a hitting paradise, and Root took full advantage of it on the first day.

Even against the right-arm pace of Australia’s Scott Boland, Root dominated with the bat on the first day. He even smashed a reverse scoop for six.

With Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne in the series, we have three of the best batsmen in cricket. To be really honest, I don’t know which one would do better,” Hussain told Sky Sports, as reported by ANI.

Ben Stokes’s leadership as captain, along with that of head coach Brendon McCullum, has inspired a new approach to English cricket.

Noting that England hasn’t played a tie in 12 Tests while Brendon McCullum has been captain, he predicted that there wouldn’t be many ties.
