Liezel Lee raised seven places to top the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen after showing superb form in the series against India Women.
South Africa opener Liezel Lee has shot seven places to become the top-ranked batsman in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings released on Tuesday. On the back of a stunning run in the ongoing series against India, Lee displaced Tammy Beaumont from the top spot. India’s opener Punam Raut has also moved up to the eighth position. Raut, who has achieved a career-high 13th ranking, is fourth in the list of Indian batsmen after Mandhana (seventh), Mithali (ninth), and Harmanpreet Kaur (15th). Raut is in superb form and has scored an unbeaten 62, 77, and 104 not out in his last three ODIs.
Harmanpreet is ranked two among the batsmen and has gained three places to reach 49th place in bowling.
Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gaikwad is one to achieve the remarkable feat, reaching the 18th spot among bowlers with five wickets in three matches and 71st among batsmen.
Sushma Verma (from three places to 81st position in batsmen) and Mansi Joshi (from fifth place to 64th among bowlers) have also benefited from the latest weekly update.
Coming back to Lee, the Proteas batsman had scored four, 132, and 69 in three matches during the previous week, scoring an unbeaten 83 with the opener in the series from the 11th to the eighth week during the previous week.
This is the second time Lee has topped the ODI batting chart, having previously taken the number one spot in June 2018 when he scored 117 against England at Howe. At that time, her rule lasted only three days as she overtook Elise Perry of Australia. Lee is the only South African to top the women’s ODI batting rankings.
Laura Goodall, whose career-best 59 runs did not help the decisive win in Lucknow, moved up 27 places to 48th, while off-spinner Nondumiso Shangse moved up 18 places to 68th. The Ayabonga blueprint has moved up one place to ninth among bowlers and gained two slots to reach 100th place among batsmen.
