Pakistan will play three ODIs (ODIs) and four Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in South Africa during April, Cricket South Africa announced on Friday. The visiting team will be in a bio-safe environment and matches will be limited to two venues – Centurion’s Supersport Park and Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium.
The series will bring to the end of a domestic international season influenced by Covid-19. Fears about the virus cut England into a white-ball tour in December and Australia withdrew from a planned three-test tour, scheduled to take place in March.
The only domestic international match played by South Africa during the 2020/21 season was three Twenty20 internationals against England and two Test matches against Sri Lanka.
South Africa has recently completed a two-Test series in Pakistan and is currently involved in a Twenty20 series in that country.
Graeme Smith, South Africa’s director of cricket, thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board for agreeing to play an additional T20 international, as it was originally planned that there would be just three matches in that format.
“Pakistan has proved their position as one of the most dangerous teams for a limited time and I am sure they will give a tough test to the Proteas on the highway,” Smith said.
