In a video that went viral, teammate Mohammed Siraj hands Jadeja a substance, which he rubs on his left index finger.
On the first day of the first Test, Ravindra Jadeja not only dominated Australia with a five-for, but he also applied something to his spinning finger, prompting speculation as to what it was. Australian media and a former player were curious about a video that surfaced online, which appeared to show Jadeja receiving something from his teammate Mohammed Siraj and then applying and rubbing that on his left index finger. Former Australia captain Tim Paine was quoted as saying, “interesting,” when a fan showed him the video.
An anonymous BCCI source, however, informed PTI that the medication was intended to relieve discomfort from a finger injury.
Both visiting players, David Warner and Steve Smith, were banned for their roles in the ball-tampering controversy that unfolded in South Africa in 2018.
A video showing Jadeja taking something from Mohammed Siraj and putting it on his finger appeared to spark a scandal. Foxsports.com.au, an Australian news website, published a story on the topic and captioned a tweet about it “Interesting. During the first innings of the first Test between Australia and India, a controversial occurrence was caught on camera, sparking heated debate.”
Vaughan posted the news on Twitter and said: “What is that he’s trying to twirl around his finger? This #INDvsAUS has never happened before.”
