As India’s BWF World Championships charge got begun on Sunday, Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth won his first match, but Sai Praneeth was beaten. He defeated Pablo Abian of Spain (21-12, 21-16, 36 minutes) in straight sets to win the match. After a 21-17 lead, Sai Praneeth went down 7-21 and 18-21 in the next two sets to lose the match on Sunday.
Other Indian shuttlers, notably HS Prannoy, will compete in the BWF World Championships later in the day.
Three-time champion shuttler Carolina Marin’s return to action has been delayed yet more after the Spaniard chose to withdraw from the competition.
Following an injury to his left knee earlier this year, the Olympic gold medalist decided to retire from the sport.
