The National team was asked by Sri Lankan head coach Mickey Arthur to remain away from the social media after fans launched a movement to boycott the players after the ODI series defenses against India.
Mickey Arthur, Sri Lanka’s head coach, ordered the national social media team on Saturday after dissatisfied supporters launched a campaign to boycott players following a series of defaults in the rest of the country. The South African coach revealed that players had “been hammered” and their judgment and attitude were affected when they were preparing for the World Cup T20 later this year. ‘Some of the items stated are incomprehensible,’ Arthur said Sri Lanka in front of Sunday’s three-game T20 tournaments with India.
Sri Lanka succeeded in depriving India of a clean international one-day sweep, winning its third and final match on Friday. The last four consecutive ODI tournaments have now been lost in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is starting Sunday’s T20 event against India after losing five straight series, with the final defeat against the UK earlier this month.
The decision to order the squad came following a campaign to boycott Sri Lankan fans on Facebook and Twitter.
“My guys’ suggestion is just to stay away from it. You’re totally hammered on it,” remarked Arthur. “There is only one way to deal with it and not to look at it.
“There are simply some fools here who think they really know what’s going on when they don’t actually know anything,” he says.
He stated players should emulate his example of the fact that they don’t participate in social media and claimed he signed up for the coronavirus lockdown on Twitter last April.
But Arthur took himself to Twitter on Wednesday to refuse a spat with skipper Dasun Shanaka after losing India’s second ODI this week.
“It was a really nice debate, it didn’t have to produce any misfortune!” On Twitter, Arthur said.
Shanaka informed reporters later that tactics were the bust-up.
