Ben Stokes is likely to miss England’s Twenty20 World Cup campaign, with Chris Silverwood prioritizing his personal well-being. The 30-year-old hasn’t played cricket since July due to mental health issues and a finger injury. The International Cricket Council wants squads by Friday, and Stokes is unlikely to make the cut. England will name three backup players, and he may not be one of them.
“We’ll leave that one late,” Silverwood said. “We will give Ben all the help he needs.
“I haven’t talked to him yet because I want to give him some space, but others are, and we’ll talk about it soon.
“But I won’t hurry him, and he’ll have all the assistance he needs. My main worry is for him and his well-being.”
The UAE and Oman World Cup runs from October 17 through November 14.
Injured paceman Jofra Archer will be replaced by Sussex teammate Tymal Mills.
The Ashes Test squad for Australia is anticipated to be announced later this month.
