In the first one-day international against England, India’s Jasprit Bumrah took 6-19 and helped his team to a 110-run victory at The Oval in London.
In the first of a three-match ODI series against England, Jasprit Bumrah bowled one of the best spells by an Indian cricketer ever, returning with statistics of 6-19 in 7.2 overs. The Jos Buttler-led team was bundled out for 110 as a result of his performance. After Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan’s undefeated scores of 76 and 31, India cruised to a ten-wicket victory. Ex-England captain Nasser Hussain made the claim that Bumrah is the best all-rounder in the world right now while Sachin Tendulkar made the same statement on Twitter just a few minutes after.
While speaking to the media following the game, Bumrah claimed that he never gets carried away by acclaim or criticism. “It was a good day, and now you’re being praised for it. But I’m the type of person who doesn’t get swept up in the praise or the criticism that comes my way. Even though today was a terrific day, my focus is always on striving to perform my best in whatever format I’m currently in. I’m touched by the cheers, but I strive to keep a level head no matter what “Bumrah chimed in.
“Despite my preference to be in the here and now, these days I find myself constantly surrounded by outside noise and viewpoints. To avoid any potential muddle, I try to concentrate on my own assessment and preparedness. If I can click all the boxes and accept the outcome, then so be it. Consistency provides me a sense of security, so I strive to maintain it “he went on to say.
Due to minor groin pain, former captain Virat Kohli was unable to take part in the first ODI. Bumrah responded to a question concerning Virat Kohli’s fitness by saying: “I don’t know how bad the injury is because I didn’t play in the last match. Hopefully, he’ll be ready for the next game. I have no idea how serious his ailment is.”
The cooperation between Mohammed Shami and Bumrah, when asked about it, Bumrah said: “When Shami and I bowl together, there is always a sense of teamwork in the air. When we first started talking today, we realized that he was an experienced bowler and that the ball was swinging. It’s a fantastic thing when two people complement each other. He’s an extremely talented bowler who’s been with India for a long time. Bowling with him is fun for me. He’s a great bowler, so we keep talking in the middle.”
“It is critical that the wicket is accurate so that all players may participate and the competition is fair, and in the end, it boils down to skill. It became easier to hit the ball as it became softer. However, we were able to take wickets with the new ball, and it worked out in our favor “he continued.
The pacer had this to say regarding the international cricket calendar: “After a Test match, T20Is, and ODIs in the space of a few days, it is difficult to keep up. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential. You must rest well if you are to regain your strength. There is a lot of stress on your body when you’re fast-bowling. We’re professional cricketers who’ve always wanted to represent India on the national team. Now that we are able to achieve that, we have no reason to be unhappy. Every effort is made to maintain a high level of performance. We’ll do what we can, but it’s a difficulty.”
“You can’t just pick and choose which games you want to play. When it comes to the World Cup, the format is given first priority. There is a World Test Championship final, thus you want to play as many Tests as possible. After a little interruption caused by COVID, we returned to playing nonstop. This is all you need to know. We consult with the team’s management before deciding which format to prioritize, which is vital.”
