After the upcoming T20 series against the West Indies, Starc feels that the Australian team has a great opportunity to prepare for the T20 World Cup.
Mitchell Starc, the pacer for the West Indies, has described the ongoing series with Australia as a “wonderful opportunity” for the side to work toward their preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in October. Australia will play West Indies in five T20 internationals and three One Day Internationals beginning on July 9. Start, who has not played T20 cricket for nine years, anticipates this upcoming series will help him get back into his rhythm with the game. Start reportedly said, “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the group to refocus on preparing for the World Cup,” and ESPNcricinfo quoted him as saying this.
And personally, it would be nice to get a bit of a rhythm of T20 cricket, he said.
In the lead-up to the West Indies series, the Australian pacer is working on fine-tuning his white-ball skills, and he has changed his preparation so that T20 cricket is taken into consideration.
“During the latter half of the summer, I put white-ball focus on the backburner. The upcoming months are all about white-ball preparation, particularly with the World T20 in Sri Lanka in March “ESPNcricinfo quoted Starc as saying, in which he said,
“Shorter spells, with a greater emphasis on remaining unpredictable. There’s not a whole lot of change when it comes to my preparation across formats, but needless to say, there will be more focus on strategically what we’ll choose to bring in the tournament “he went on to say.
A month ago, Aaron Finch, the captain of the Aussies’ T20 World Cup squad, noted that the upcoming tours of the West Indies and Bangladesh will be important for certain players who want to make a claim on a place in the squad for the tournament.
