T20 World Cup
There will be a new format for the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Twenty countries will compete in four groups of five teams each at the 2024 T20 World Cup. After the first round, the top eight teams will advance to the Super Eight phase.

Twenty countries will compete in four groups of five teams each at the 2024 T20 World Cup, with the first round being followed by a Super Eight round. In the previous two tournaments (2021 and 2022), the first round was followed by the Super 12, but in the upcoming event, the top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super Eight phase, where they will be further divided into two groups of four each.

The top two teams from each of the two Super Eights groups will advance to the semi-finals, and then the final.

A total of 12 teams have already qualified for the upcoming event in the West Indies and the United States.

There are two hosts in the top two spots: the West Indies and the United States.

Already qualified for the 2024 tournament are the top eight teams from the most recent T20 World Cup in Australia (top four in each Super 12 group), including defending champions England and runners-up Pakistan, as well as Afghanistan and Bangladesh, the next best teams on the ICC men’s T20I Rankings.

According to an ICC press release, eight remaining seats in the 2024 event will be selected through regional competition.

The ICC said that while South Africa had qualified for 2024 by placing in the top eight, Zimbabwe had failed to build on a good start and had instead finished last in the Super 12 group, forcing them to return to regional qualification.

Two seats will be reserved for each of Africa, Asia, and Europe, while the Americas and East Asia-Pacific will each get one.

Two groups of four teams, including those that qualified and those that finished ninth through twelfth in the previous tournament, have competed in the opening round of the last two T20 World Cups.

Two teams from each group advanced to the Super 12 stage alongside the other eight teams that had qualified from the first round.
