On this day in 2008, Virat Kohli played his first ODI for India against Sri Lanka.

On Thursday, Virat Kohli will have played for India for 14 years to the day. On August 18, 2011, Kohli made his international debut in an ODI in Dambulla against Sri Lanka. He started the innings and finished with 12 off 22 as India was defeated by eight wickets. However, Kohli has developed into one of the greatest players in history during the course of his 14-year international career and has successfully led India in a variety of forms. Kohli posted an epic photo collage of the star batter on social media to commemorate the day he first entered the international stage.

For India’s visit to the West Indies and the next ODI series in Zimbabwe, Kohli was given a break. He is expected to make a comeback for India in the Asia Cup, where they will play Pakistan in their opening match.
