Karun Nair took to Twitter to appeal to the cricket community, writing, “Dear cricket, grant me one more chance.”
To what extent does Karun Nair’s name sound familiar to you? This cricketer’s great talent is well known to everyone who follows Indian domestic cricket, the Indian Premier League, or even Test cricket. Once considered a rising talent, Nair made his international debut in December 2016 in Chennai, when he became only India’s second triple-centurion after Virender Sehwag by smashing an unbeaten 303 against England in a Test match.
The news of Nair’s debut caused quite a stir, however, after he suffered two straight losses to Australia in March 2017, he was dropped from the Test team and has not played for India since. In 2016, he played in two one-day internationals for India, both of which were against Zimbabwe.
Nair was a vital member of the Karnataka team in domestic cricket, even after he said afterward that he had been given no explanation by the team administration as to why he was never given another chance to play for India.
However, as of late, his stock has fallen in domestic cricket as well, and after being left off of the state’s squads for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was left off of the roster for the first two Ranji Trophy matches of the season on Saturday as well.
A tearful Karun Nair took to Twitter to plead, “Dear cricket, grant me one more chance.”
Many cricket fans and followers replied to the post with words of support for the cricketer.
Across 85 first-class matches, Nair has racked up 5922 runs at a near-50 batting average. He has played in 76 IPL games already.
