In the final one-day international between India and Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli batted 166 not out (not out) off 110 balls.
India scored 390 for 5 against Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, led by a brilliant century from Shubman Gill. Kohli (166 not out off 110) performed the deed with his 74th international hundred and 46th in the 50-over format after an opening partnership of 95 runs between Rohit Sharma (42 off 49) and Gill (116 off 97).
After not hitting a hundred in international play for over three years before the Asia Cup last year, Kohli is back to his old self and has been scoring hundreds at a whim in a World Cup year. Only three more centuries will put the 34-year-old on par with Sachin Tendulkar, who holds the record with 49. Amazingly, he reached his 46th century in 259 innings, whereas Tendulkar needed 452 to reach his 49.
When Kohli returned to the dugout after scoring 166 runs off 110 balls without being dismissed, the social media platform went wild with praise for the batting prodigy.
Take a look at some responses below:
India’s 390-5 in 50 overs versus Sri Lanka was largely due to Virat Kohli’s massive batting performance. Shubman Gill, meanwhile, blasted 116 runs off 97 balls for his second ODI century. Also contributing was Rohit Sharma, who batted for the team and scored 42 runs off 49 balls as the captain.
The Sri Lankan team was led by Lahiru Kumara, who took two wickets, and Kasun Rajitha, who took one.
