Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow both remained unbeaten overnight, putting England on the verge of a historic victory.
Even though England is on the verge of a stunning victory over India, top paceman Stuart Broad is having a nightmare of a game. When Broad was bowled out by Jasprit Bumrah, he had the unfortunate distinction of having bowled the most expensive over in Test cricket. When he came out to bat in England’s first innings, he was given a dressing down by English umpire Richard Kettleborough for arguing about something.
Stump mic caught umpire Kettleborough’s voice as he told Broad to “stop up” and continue his batting in a video that has now gone popular on social media.
Even the umpire warned Broad that his actions could get him in hot water again.
The umpiring is on us; you take care of the batting, okay? “Kettleborough,” remarked.
“If you don’t, you’ll find yourself in hot water again. One more for the record books. Broady! Broady! Put your bat down and concentrate on the game, “As Kettleborough warned the England star, it could be heard.
With Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow both going undefeated overnight, England is just a few runs away from a convincing victory.
In the second innings, England’s bowlers, led by skipper Ben Stokes, bowled India out for 245 to offer up a chance for a comeback victory.
Since Brendon McCullum became England’s head coach, Alex Lees and Zak Crawley shared a century opening stand to put the visitors in command.
Root and Bairstow deflated the Indian assault after losing three wickets in rapid succession.
