Punjab Kings opener Shikhar Dhawan revealed on Monday that he was aware of Chennai Super Kings’ plans to bowl wide yorkers at him during his innings against CSK.
According to Punjab Kings opener Shikhar Dhawan, he was aware of Chennai Super Kings’ plans to bowl wide yorkers at him in IPL 2022 when batting against them on Monday. During his innings, the opener revealed he was thinking about attacking the short side of the field. Chanuka Rajapaksa (42) and Shikhar Dhawan (88*), playing his 200th IPL game, shared a 110-run stand to put PBKS on 187/4 in their 20 overs. Liam Livingstone (19) came in at the end to put PBKS on top. After being set an improbable target of 188 to win, the team’s batsmen fought valiantly to keep the side in contention despite the continual loss of wickets at the other end, but the Yellow Caps could only manage a consolation victory by 11 runs.
“I knew I wanted to go for the shorter side of the field, but I didn’t have a specific bowler in mind. CSK is a team I’ve faced numerous times. I knew they were going to try to hit me with wide yorkers, so I hit them to the longer side of the field as well as the on-side “explained Dhawan to pacer Arshdeep Singh after the match.
He admitted that he had to play Mahesh Theeksana cautiously at the beginning, but he also started attacking him when the time was perfect..”
That is what I have to say about my innings “My favorite place to play is Wankhede, and the pitch was excellent. For a while, it was a challenge. I remained calm and collected. I was able to score a lot of points in a few huge overs once I got my bearings.”
Arshdeep’s performance with the ball was also praised by Dhawan. Mitchell Santner, a New Zealander, had been taken by the bowler during a stint of 1/33.
Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal was knocked out of the game early on the powerplay. Shikhar Dhawan (88) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (42) had a 110-run partnership, while Liam Livingstone’s hard-hitting strokes helped PBKS to 187/4 in their 20 overs.
It was difficult for CSK to reach the 50-run mark, but they did so in just 7.5 overs, thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad (30) and Ambati Rayadu (37). Rayadu (78) and captain Ravindra Jadeja (64 not out) maintained their onslaught on the Punjab bowling line-up with a 64-run stand (21). MS Dhoni attempted to take his team over the line in the final over, but Jonny Bairstow grabbed him while he was trying to hit the ball over the ropes.
Despite the close score, Punjab Kings prevailed by 11 runs thanks to Shikhar Dhawan’s 88* off 59, which contained nine fours and two sixes.
Punjab Kings now sit in sixth place in the points standings, while the Super Kings are in ninth place, with four points. Lucknow Super Giants will be the opponent for PBKS on April 29 and Sunrisers Hyderabad, the opponent for CSK on May 1.
