India women were drawn to playing one-off Test matches against England
The game was called due to bad weather on the final day
India’s desire was to keep playing
England Women vs India Women: On the final day of the match, bad light forced the bails to be thrown in on the England Women team.
When the umpires took off the bails early in the match and ended the game prematurely, Indian captain Mithali Raj said she was surprised, even though her teammates on the field were still interested in batting. Earlier this week, two debutantes, Sneh Rana, and Taniya Bhatia made a match-saving 108-run partnership to keep their side in the game in the ninth wicket stand, and when play was called off due to bad light, they were still out there. It was Rana’s first game of the season, and she was undefeated with an 80 score in the first innings. She had a good chance to score a century on her debut, but she was denied the opportunity despite the Indians providing the opposing skipper Heather Knight with evidence that the batter wanted to continue playing.
“This was an important game for us. That’s why we informed the other captain that we wanted to continue. I was also on the back foot when I saw that the bail had been taken. Sneh Rana, who was in the virtual press conference, told me that the umpire had called bad light,” Raj explained.
But, to my surprise, both the teams began congratulating each other. Based on what I’ve heard, it seems as though the match is over.
After England scored 231 in pursuit of their team total of 396 for nine declared, they enforced a follow-on. It was more evident in their second attempt, where the Indians forced a draw with a score of 344 for eight.
Deepti Sharma amassed a score of 168 off 54 balls while the other opener, Rana, hit an unbeaten 80 from 154 deliveries, leaving the English bowlers frustrated.
