Andhra’s capital Hyderabad now has a new face in Hyderabad native Hanuma Vihari.
His five-year trek away from Hyderabad began years ago.
He posted a tweet to announce his choice.
Hanuma Vihari will play for Hyderabad in the domestic season, having earned the right to represent the city. He had left Hyderabad to join Andhra several seasons back.
For the first time in nearly half a decade, Indian test specialist Hanuma Vihari has returned “home” to Hyderabad, where he is joining the city’s franchise in the upcoming domestic season. Vihari, who has spent the past half-decade playing for a different city’s franchise to help advance his international career, chose to join Hyderabad for the upcoming season due to the franchise’s reputation for developing young talent. The Andhra captaincy, as well as being part of the ODI squad, were offered to Vihari, who was a pupil of fielding coach R Sridhar. R Sridhar coached Vihari in Hyderabad. R Sridhar got Vihari a place on Andhra’s side to strengthen his own team. However, the national selectors kept an eye on the player’s performance and the team’s success. They suggested that Vihari be selected for an ODI game. However, Vihari will be able to play for Hyderabad this season, thanks to M Azharuddin’s leadership at the Hyderabad Cricket Association.
He announced the decision on his own Twitter account.
“And I’m here to tell everyone that I’ve had a positive parting of ways with Andhra Cricket Association. I’ve been captain and a representative for Andhra for the past five years “Vihari shared his idea with the public via Twitter, in a note in which he’d written only a few words.
Additionally, he mentioned that he will participate in Hyderabad cricket for the season.
In the first class, he has scored 7,261 runs and has 21 centuries in 94 games, averaging 55 runs.
In addition, he has 3000 runs after playing 80 List A games. Azharuddin, former India captain and HCA president, likely played a significant impact in Vihari’s decision to join the association.
If Vihari isn’t chosen for India’s South Africa tour in December-January, he may serve as Hyderabad’s captain in the Ranji Trophy season. Before the new year, he’ll be in action in the T20 and ODI tournaments of Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare.
The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) office-bearers had provided help to the middle-order batsman in appreciation of his efforts.
“I want to congratulate everyone on the squad, as well as the association’s coaches and other officers for their continual support. We have grown into a team we can be proud of, and I am especially proud of my colleagues for all their hard work,” he said.
Vihari, who played a major role in the 2020-21 Australia tour’s Sydney Test, has thus far played 12 Tests and racked up 624 runs, having made 111 as his career-best. He first played for England in a 2018 match at ‘The Oval.’
